The Bumbershoot: December 3, 2018

The Bumbershoot
The purpose of children's ministry at TPC is to give specific thought and attention to the way children grow in their understanding of Christ's Kingdom and what membership in that Kingdom entails.

note takingPRE-SCHOOL CE PARTY:
The children of TPC's 3 & 4 year old class are invited to a Christmas party hosted by their teachers, the Lees and Cardels, this Saturday from 10:00-11:30. There will be a craft, food, Nativity story, music and more. Please RSVP to Monty at 615-278-6059 to recieve the address.

All ages are invited to attend prayer services each Sunday evening at 6:00 during the season of Advent. Advent guides are available on the table to the left of the Sanctuary doors.

During Hanging of the Greens, children were given Family Advent Guides. There was an error in the times of services printed in that edition. Please note that all Advent services, including the Christmas Eve service, will begin at 6:00pm.

  Advent Choir
Thank you to the children who led our congregation into the presence of our King yesterday to begin the season of Advent.

"Come Light Our Hearts" by Sandra McCracken is the song of the month. The music team introduced this song into our worship liturgy this year and it is quite fitting for the Advent Season.

Praise God for protecting Ms. Shawn during her accident but continue to pray for full healing. If your family would like to help the Lee family during Shawn's recovery, please contact the church office to find out what you can do.
Yesterday’s worship training lesson was, "Entering God's Presence" and next week will be "Committing to God's Kingdom." Click on the title to read the lessons for further discussion at home.

The season of Advent has begun! It is the time of year that we prepare for the celebration of Christmas. It is during this time that we try to think purposefully about the fact that Jesus became a human in order to rescue humans from slavery to sin and death. However, in our culture today, it is hard sometimes to focus on thinking about Jesus during this time of the year.  We get toy magazines in the mail, watch commercials on TV, see glitter and lights all around town, and our thinking gets sidetracked by all the things we want. It is easy to forget that Jesus - our rescuer - should be the thing we want most. Imagine if you were sitting in a prison cell, cold, starving, left for dead. What would you want most? If someone let you choose between the gift at the top of your Christmas list or someone who could rescue you, give you food, and make you a king or queen in his Kingdom, what would you choose? I would choose the rescuer! And that is EXACTLY what Jesus is. Jesus is the gift that never wears out or gets old because he rescues us from sin and death. And when we have Jesus, he shares his entire kingdom with us!

King Jesus, my rescuer, please help me to want you more than I want anything else.

“Thus says the Lord of hosts: In this place that is waste, without man or beast, and in all of its cities, there shall again be habitations of shepherds resting their flocks.” Jeremiah 33:12
