March 11, 2019
The Bumbershoot
The purpose of children's ministry at TPC is to give specific thought and attention to the way children grow in their understanding of Christ's Kingdom and what membership in that Kingdom entails.

THINGS TO NOTE:

CHILDREN'S CHOIR THIS SUNDAY:
Join new choir directors Debbie Dunn and Lisa Emfinger each Sunday morning from 8:20-9:20 before worship. We are learning a new song to introduce to the congregation on Palm Sunday. All children in grades K-5 are invited and encouraged to attend whether you know anything about singing or not. Parents, this is your opportunity to drop off your children and sit and relax with a cup of coffee before worship!

DRAMA CAMP DESIGN CONTEST:
Do you have an idea for a design that you think would look good on our Drama Camp t-shirts this year? Designs should be general fitting the basic theme of Drama Camp which is to be creative and do whatever your hand finds to do all to the glory of God. Simple designs usually make the best shirts. If you have an idea you would like considered, submit it here by email or drop a hard copy by the church office. All ideas must be submitted by March 31. We will choose an idea or possibly combine some of your ideas to create this year's Drama Camp tshirt design. If your idea leads to our design, you will recieve a discount on your camper fee. (Discount determined by how many ideas are combined to create design.)

A THOUGHT FROM YESTERDAY'S PASSAGE:

In Exodus 11, God tells Moses he is going to bring one more plague upon Pharaoh and Egypt. Many children (as well as many adults for that matter) often wonder why God sent plagues on the whole land. Why not just on Pharaoh? He was the one in charge after all. He was the one not letting the people free from slavery. Why did all of Egypt have to be affected? Well, first you have to understand that even the Egyptians had a chance to turn away from Pharaoh's rule and believe God's warning. And some of them did! But also, we need to remember God's design.

In Genesis, when God created humanity, He gave them dominion over all other things he had made. He created humans to rule over the world by caring for it. When Adam and Eve failed at that task and sought to rule in their own way, they didn't just break their own hearts. They didn't even just break humanity, they broke the whole way the world works. It is like when there is a tiny crack in a bowl of water. The water begins to leak and make a mess. And if there is enough water in the bowl, eventually the weight of the water will shatter the bowl completely. Man's ways of ruling apart from God just don't work.

But there is good news in this design as well. In the same way that the curse which came into human hearts through Adam and Eve's sin affects all creation, so God's promise to defeat the curse extends to ALL of creation! This is why we hear God promising that he won't simply save the Isralites from slavery, but he will deliver them with gold and silver and bread and cattle and whatever they need plus more! The promise of God is that by his power he will restore ALL of creation! He will drive out all forces opposed to Him and His ways completely.

The Israelites were delivered as God promised. And from the Isralite line, Jesus descended. And Jesus did battle with an enemy greater than Pharaoh - the enemy of the whole human race: death. And Jesus won! This is why we sing his praises. This is why we listen to his word and obey his commands. Jesus is the one who is leading all people who believe him out of our slavery to sin and death and into a completely renewed creation.

King Jesus, help me to trust you. Even when life seems to be raining plagues all around me. Help me to believe and rest in your promise to keep me safe and drive out all that is opposed to you.
